Just in time for Veterans Day, an Air Force veteran from World War II has received the medals saluting his service to his country.

At 95 years old, East Longmeadow resident Pierre Kennedy’s children presented him with recently received medals honoring Kennedy’s long service as a tail gunner during the many bombing missions over Germany, during which he was shot down and spent months as a prisoner of war.

Kennedy told 22News what Veterans Day means to him. “You should be proud of your heritage, whether you were born here or not born here. And know what that heritage means.”

The 95-year-old World War II veteran shared the event with his neighbors at the assisted living facility Reserve in East Longmeadow.
